Lesson 1 of 8
Content vs marketing — why most PTs confuse the two
Learning objectives
- Tell the difference between content, marketing and sales
- See why posting more rarely creates more clients
- Map your current activity onto a real marketing funnel
- Decide where the missing piece in your funnel actually is
Posting is not marketing
Content is one tactic. Marketing is the system that turns a stranger into a paying client: attention → trust → offer → enquiry → sale → retention. Posting alone only touches the first two steps.
Most PTs hit a wall because they keep stacking more content on top of a broken funnel. The post is fine. The marketing around it is missing.
A simple PT marketing system
Attention: short-form posts, Reels, local visibility, partnerships, referrals. Trust: testimonials, before/afters with consent, free value, a coach profile that explains who you help. Offer: one clear package with a price. Enquiry: a single way to start a conversation. Sale: a short discovery call or async DM flow. Retention: onboarding, monthly check-ins, a renewal moment.
If any one of those is missing, more posting will not fix it.
Find the missing piece
Look at the last 10 enquiries you received. Where did they get stuck? No enquiries means attention or trust is missing. Enquiries that don't convert means the offer or sale step is weak. Sales that don't stay means retention is the gap. Fix the weakest link, not the loudest one.
Founder insight — Derrick Twum
Coaches who quietly scale almost always have an average funnel and a brilliant offer. Coaches who burn out usually have brilliant content and no funnel.
Key takeaway
Marketing is a system, not a posting habit. Find the weakest step and fix that first.
Reflection questions
- 1Which step of the funnel is your real bottleneck right now?
- 2What is the one offer a stranger could understand in 10 seconds?
- 3How do new people actually start a conversation with you today?
- 4What part of marketing do you avoid because it feels uncomfortable?
Action task
Draw your current marketing funnel on one page. Circle the step where most people drop off. That is your priority for the next 30 days.
